Meet Dermatologist, Dr. Cole

The Skin Center is very proud and fortunate to have Dr. Gary Cole, former Professor of Dermatology at University of California, Irvine. Dr. Cole is a seasoned expert dermatologist who was the past Chief and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the VA Hospital in Long Beach for over 25 years and Program Director for Dermatology at UCI. His areas of specialty and expertise include allergic & contact dermatitis, rare skin conditions, and skin cancer.
 
Dr. Cole is very well known and a sought after lecturer and clinical dermatologist. He has published over 30 journal articles and book chapters in the scientific literature. He has given over one hundred lectures and continues teaching UCI Dermatology residents. He received the American Academy of Dermatology’s Award for Historical Excellence for a national presentation. He is currently a member of the Medical Education Speaker’s Network where he lectures at many local Hospitals. He is an invited lecturer nationally and internationally. He has pioneered the current uses of buffered lidocaine for more comfortable patient anesthesia. Dr. Gary Cole is an allergic contact dermatitis and  patch test expert. He also specializes in the treatment of  jock itch and groin rash.

Dr. Cole has trained many of the dermatologists locally and nationally over the past 25 years. He continues to participate in the education and residency specialty training of dermatologists at the University of California, Irvine.

Dr. Cole received his undergraduate and medical degrees from UCLA. In 1977, he completed his residency in Dermatology at the University of Oregon Health Sciences in Portland. He joined the University of California Irvine Department of Dermatology where he was involved in training some of the top dermatologists in Orange County, California, and nation wide. He has been married to his wife Claudette for more than 30 years, and they have a son who is an up and coming professional magician performing worldwide. Dr. Cole is very unique in his practice and presentation style, and most well known by all of his patients by his sported classy bowties.
